You will provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental health conditions in a small group residential setting or an individual living arrangement. In your role you will work together with the people we serve, their families, friends, employers, and other support staff to transform their lives. 

You will develop close relationships with the people we support, partnering with them, their families, friends, and support network to help them achieve their personal goals and build skills needed for greater independence. As a Residential Counselor, you will assist individuals to develop self-management skills, responsibilities of daily life, meal planning and preparation, and transportation to medical appointments. You will work with individuals to foster social connections, friendships, and community membership while respecting and celebrating the individual’s culture, talents, and contributions. 

You may face challenges in your work. Different problems may arise, and your close connections to the people you support may make you feel emotionally burdened at times. But many Residential Counselors take great pride in supporting residents and making them feel respected and treating them with dignity.
